2 Year Old Toddling

Painting with the 2s AOur main goal is to create a warm, welcoming and safe learning environment for the children.  Easing the transition from home to school is of great importance to us in helping the child to adjust and conquer separation anxiety should they experience it.  In the toddling two’s we focus on a variety of skills and provide opportunities for the children to master these skills.

Self-Help Skills – Activities are designed to enhance your child’s self-esteem.  Children’s independence will increase as they are introduced to fundamentals of hygiene and they accomplish self-help tasks.  Teachers provide the children with many opportunities to master these tasks, because repetition is vital when it comes to learning a new skill.

2s At Oatmeal TableSocial and Emotional Skills – Two year olds experience an array of emotions.  We encourage children to express their emotions, both happy and sad, in healthy and safe ways using their voice.  Social skills are emphasized in our classroom.  Your child will become aware of the other children in the classroom and teachers will encourage the children to engage in group play.  Teachers offer conflict resolution skills throughout the day to help children co-exist within the classroom harmoniously.

Physical Skills – Running, jumping, hopping and climbing on the playground help promote proper development of large muscle groups while bringing your child great joy.  Fine motor skills are strengthened as the children engage in fun activities such as play dough, coloring, finger painting, and creating collages.

Cognitive Skills – Cognitive skills and critical thinking are the foundation of learning and knowledge.  These skills are rapidly expanding in a toddler.  Teachers provide the children with opportunities to use their critical thinking skills by asking open-ended questions, exploring the five senses and beginning rote counting.  The children are also introduced to the alphabet and the sounds each letter makes to place a foundation of learning for the preschool years.
